Benefits of Breastfeeding Program Extend Beyond Babies and Moms

You may know that breastfeeding is best for the health of baby and mom. But did you know breastfeeding also reduces health care costs, decreases absenteeism and increases workplace productivity and morale for moms and dads? It’s even better for the environment.   According to data from Lincoln’s two maternity care hospitals, 91% of moms intend to breastfeed. By receiving consistent breastfeeding information and by having access to appropriate breastfeeding management when issues arise, moms are able to meet their breastfeeding goals and feel a sense of accomplishment and empowerment in the process.    Every day we work with breastfeeding moms — some first-time parents, some knowing they want to breastfed, others undecided. YouTurn Program Reaches Into the Community to Reduce Violent Crime

When it comes to violence, there’s rarely just one victim. Research has shown violence’s adverse effects extend beyond the immediate victim to impact families, communities, neighborhoods and schools. In fact, exposure to violence alone has been linked to chronic disease, mental health issues and lower quality of life, plus increased risk of continuing the cycle of violence and disease. We as health care professionals see the destruction violence causes firsthand. In fact, every 98 seconds in the US. there’s another victim of sexual assault, and one in 10 of them are male. How about one in three, and one in four? That’s how many women and men, respectively, are victims of intimate partner violence. What if each and every one had a specially-trained ally in the emergency department or the hospital?
