Is it Safe to Take Antidepressants While Pregnant?
It does depend on what medicine the patient is taking, but certain medications cannot be given during pregnancy.
Psychotropic medications, or medicines that treat emotional health problems, have one of the largest research bases of any medication that we utilize during pregnancy. In fact, psychotropic medications are more well researched than medications that are given routinely in pregnancy, such as antibiotics.
So, if a woman is taking medication and they think they might be pregnant, or they are pregnant, they need to sit down with their provider to determine the best course of action, because any medication taking during pregnancy has risks and benefits.
