Wonderful People to Help During a Rough Road

By CHI Health October 13, 2010 Posted in: Patient Stories

I found a lump in my breast on Thanksgiving 2009.

I had just had a baby and we thought maybe it was a clogged milk duct. I went to see my OBGYN, Ann Sullivan for my 6-week post partum check up and she sent me for an ultrasound and mammogram the next day.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on December 8, 2009.

The following week I had several scans done and during that time I had the pleasure to meet my nurse navigator, Chelsea. She sat with me and my husband during the first visit with my oncologist and took notes for us to take home. It was such a huge help. She has been there for me for many questions during my journey, even helping me get an appointment set for my consultation with the radiation oncologist.

I also had the pleasure of working with Sandy at the CHI Health Renewed Hope Boutique. She had me come in and talk with her before I started chemo to discuss losing my hair and how that will feel, and helped me pick out the best wig to match my real hair. Now that my hair is coming back after chemo, Sandy is still helping me with trimming my hair and helping color my new hair!

I could not ask for better people to help me with a not so pleasant journey.
